Finding the perfect Teflon© coating product for your specific needs can be quite a challenge if you don’t know what you’re looking for or how to evaluate the different types of Teflon© coatings. That’s why Coating Solutions Inc. is here to help you differentiate between the different types of Teflon© coatings so that you can choose the best Teflon© product for your needs without the hassle of having to do extensive research just to find one quick answer. If you’re looking for a chemical-resistant Teflon© coating that’s specifically designed with chemical resistance in mind, you’ve come to the right place; our Hugo, MN Teflon© coating experts will help you understand the differences in the makeup and uses of our chemical-resistant Teflon© coatings, including letting you know which Teflon© coatings should and should not be used for your project.
Teflon© PFA Coating
Our Teflon© PFA coating is perfect for chemical processing, as it is made from perfluoroalkoxy, which makes this Teflon© coating non-porous and highly resistant to chemicals and gives it a hardness of 60. Teflon© PFA coating provides greater heat resistance than FEP coating, withstanding temperatures as high as 500°F (260°C). This type of Teflon© coating can be used to coat surfaces with as much as 40 mils. Of thickness, and its best dielectric strength is 3,000 volts/mil.
Teflon© FEP Coating
Although Teflon© FEP coating is best used for nonstick properties, it is another type of Teflon© coating that can be used for chemical processing because of its high resistance to chemicals and corrosion. The Teflon© coating offers great abrasion resistance and can withstand temperatures up to 450°F (about 230°C). With a hardness of 60, Teflon© FEP coating is typically used in a thickness of 1-3 mils. as a primer or topcoat.
Other Teflon© Coatings with Good Chemical Resistance
Although there are other types of Teflon© Coating available, not all of them are chemical resistant, and others may be good for chemical resistance but less-so than Teflon© Coatings like the Teflon© PFA, or Teflon© FEP coatings. Two coatings that are both good for chemical resistance but often used for other needs are Specialty Systems Teflon© coating and Teflon© PTFE coating. Both of these types of coating have good resistance to chemicals, corrosion, and abrasion, but they are better suited to other uses, including food processing, commercial bakeware, footwear, laundry, and more.
